Time and again, Mr. Sharpton said, “I would find my friend Joe headed to the other bench, in the other uniform, and I realized he wasn’t on the same team.” (New York Times)

I sense weakness and an opening for some publicity. Wherever there is a situation where I can polarize a race, I’ll be there!

“Neither the House nor the Senate bill in current form can be effectively, fairly and wisely implemented,” said Rick Swartz, a Washington lawyer who has often coordinated legislative efforts for pro-immigration groups. “Therefore, better no law than a bad law.” (Washington Post)

Senate Minority Leader Harry M. Reid (Nev.), an antiabortion Democrat who voted for the bill, will spend part of the summer stressing the need to prevent unwanted pregnancies, aides said. (Washington Post)
TRANSLATION:

It’s not your garden-variety environmental groups. It’s hunters and anglers and outfitters and guides that are helping convince Democrats and Republicans alike of the need to protect these last places.”

We have a much better chance to win these battles if we don’t look like crazy hippies. Much of our membership is middle-aged now and are looking for more than Pyrhhic victories.
